A Different Kind of Needed

Children are not a distraction

Dear Daughter,

I watch you growing up and notice our relationship changing.

Gone are the days of you needing me to help you take a bath and wash your hair. We rarely read bedtime stories now because you fly through 500 page novels on your own. You don’t need me to refill your sippy cup, buckle you into your seat in the car or swing you up into the saddle so that I can lead you around on your horse.

Instead of talks about monsters under the bed, sharing your toys, and saying “please” and “thank you”; our talks are now more on your feelings about life, character and becoming the person God created you to be.

I feel needed in a whole new way. A way I never anticipated when you were little. This is deeper and richer. A different kind of “needed”.

I cherish the days that you call me into your room or to sit outside on the swing, just to talk. At times, I offer advice and other times the Lord whispers to me, “just listen”.

As I watch you develop into this incredible person, cultivating your gifts and the personality that God gave just to you; I can’t wait to see what you do with your life.

You’re going to do amazing things. I just know it.

I love you to the moon!

Love,

Mom
